Fitzroy Island

Fitzroy Island is a tropical oasis that offers more than most. Not only is it part of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef but with a land area of 339 hectares, of which 324 hectares is protected National park , it offers an exceptionally diverse environment to explore. 

The island is best known for its beautiful fringe coral reef and the best spot on the Island can be found about 600 metres west of the Jetty. Just off Nudey Beach a variety of hard and soft corals can be viewed and if you are lucky, green sea turtles can be found swimming or at certain times of the year nesting on the Fitzroy Island coral beaches.   Fitzroy Island also includes, mangroves, open woodlands, coral beaches and abundant fauna. 

Walking along the 1 km Secret Garden track it is possible to spot the brightly coloured Ulysses butterfly or the many unique bird species that can only be found in tropical Queensland.
