Surf, sun, and a long history

Moreton Island tours
Moreton Island
Disembarking the Moreton Ferry and setting foot on the golden sands of Moreton Island makes you feel like you have just landed in paradise. European settlement first set up on Moreton Island in 1848 in the small island town of Bulwar. Yet settlement on Moreton Island was many thousand years prior and evidence of this can still be foundation Spit Fire creek. Ancient Middens that represent an area where the Ngugi people sat and ate. The refuse pile built up over time and the middens are what remains.

In 1857 a light house was built to prevent ships crashing into the notorious waters. 80 years later and more than 1000 soldiers were housed in a military camp at Cowan Cowan. In the decade between 1952 and 1962 Moreton Island went through a dark environmentally degrading time. 6277 whales were killed in this period nearly wiping out humpback whales. Tangalooma resort still houses the remnants of a dark past.

Today 95% of Moreton Island is national park and is truly beautiful. On a day trip to Moreton Island you can hope to see a range of wildlife including whales and dolphins, sand toboggan the giant sandy dunes, snorkel the sunken wrecks, feed the wild dolphins and visit the inland lakes ... and much more.

What to do in Tasmania

Tasmania tours
Port Arthur
Tasmania is land that is largely untouched, sleepy, and in some areas forgotten. It is known for its untouched World Heritage Listed wilderness and spectacular coastlines. Places like Freycinet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay, Cradle Mountain National Park and Tahune Forest Airwalk are a must when visiting Tasmania. One thing to remember is that Tasmania is more than just beautiful natural surroundings. Places like the Museum of Old & New Art are world renowned and draw more tourists than any other single tourist attraction. A stroll around Sullivans Cove and Salamanca Markets is a great day out but a 'must do' in Tasmania is a visit to Port Arthur historic site.

For 47 year Port Arthur was known as one of the harshest prison institutions in Australia and the world. From 1830 to 1877 more than 13000 inmates were house in truly harsh conditions and 2000 never made it out.

Today a tour to Port Arthur generally starts with an early pickup from your accommodation and a trip to the famous Richmond Colonial village. You will then head down to the Tasman Peninsula. Here you will find out about the infamous convict DOGLINE.

Before entering the Port Arthur Historic site you will spend time at the Tasman Arch & Devils Kitchen.

You will have plenty of time to explore Port Arthur, visit over 30 historic buildings, take a harbour cruise & walking tour to enhance the experience & check out the popular museum and theatre.

Before departing for Hobart we visit the stunning Remarkable Cave & check out the panoramic views from Maingon Bay Lookout ...a great place to see whales !

Doittour.com provides great deals on all Tasmania and Port Arthur tour options. Call 1300 654 002 or visit Doittour.com.

200km per hour on the Sunshine Coast

Doittour.com

The Sunshine Coast is recognised as one of the top tourist destination in Australia. It is not only known for its beautiful environment and climate, great beaches and Australia Zoo but the Sunshine Coast is also home to arguably the best skydive jump zone in Australia.

Climbing to 14000 feet whilst over looking the Sunshine Coast hinterland and spectacular beaches, almost distracts you enough, to stop you thinking that you are about to jump out of a perfectly good plane. After approximately a twenty minute climb you will reach the launch height. The door will slide open and your heart will beat so loudly it nearly drowns out the aircrafts motor. As you shuffle to the door the view of the Sunshine Coast is truly amazing. You will have a clear view of the Coast line from Caloundra to Noosa.

You will be asked to look up and the a blast of cold air hits you as you tumble out of the plane. Within seconds you will be plummeting towards the ground at speeds over 200 kilometres per hour.

After 60 sixty seconds you will hear a crack above your head as the parachute opens. For the next 5 minutes you will float under the canopy concluding on the golden sands of Coolum beach.

Swan Valley wine tours
Swan Valley is one of the oldest wineries in Australia it is also one of the most compact. The Swan Valley wine region is nearly as old as European settlement in Western Australia. Just three years after a military outpost was created at King George  Sounds in 1826, the botanist, Thomas Water planted vines at Olive farm in the Swan Valley. By 1834 the first crush occurred and the rest is history.

Swan Valley now produces some Australia best wines. The Swan Valley region has over 50 wineries that can be visited. Some of the popular options are Houghton wines, Sandalford wines and Lilac Hill estate to name just a few.

Byron Bay Skydiving $299

Skydive Byron Bay
Byron Bay Skydiving
When British explorer George Herbert Leigh Mallory was asked why he wanted to climb Everest? His answer is was simple "because it's there". These three simple words are often what drives people to launch out of a perfectly good plane. Coming into Christmas, one of the most popular places to skydive from is Byron Bay. Byron is arguably one of the most spectacular beach side location on the Eastern side of Australia, making it a fantastic location to skydive.

A typical Byron Bay skydive has you arriving at your pre-organised jump time. At this stage you will need to sign all relevant waivers then meet the pilot that will have your life in his or her hands. They will take you through a few basic landing techniques then you will head out to the plane. For the next 20 minutes you will climb to 14000 feet thinking about why the bloody hell are you doing this. Then the instructor will open the door to the plane and you will be thinking about how you ever got talked into jumping out of a perfectly good plane. You will shuffle over to the door and dangle your feet out of the plane. Look up then fall. For the next 60 seconds you will reach speeds over 200km per hour and you will fall in love with skydiving. Suddenly you will hear a crack above your head as the shoot opens and for roughly five minute you will drift silently back down to earth.

This will be the greatest adrenalin rush of your life.

Choosing a Cairns reef option.

Doittour.com
Cairns reef tours
It is easy to see, when viewed up close, why the Great Barrier Reef has been recognised as one of the 8 greatest natural wonders of the world. When looking to experience a Cairns reef tour a few options need to be considered. The first is inner reef or outer reef.

In Cairns the most popular inner reef options are either Green Island or Fitzroy Island. The greatest thing about the inner reef Islands is that it provides you the opportunity to explore the island as well as the reef. The reef is made up of a mixture of soft and hard corals. On the Islands there are many options, whilst you are there you can head out for a Heli flight, scuba dive, nature walk or simply relax on the beach or enjoy a cold beverage in the resort bar.

The outer reef options allow you to either choose a vessel that visits more than one reef location or that moors to an anchored pontoon, either way you are out at sea for the entire day.  The great thing about being onboard a boat that visits multiple reef locations is that they can select the best snorkelling locations depending on tides, currents and winds on the day. When experiencing the outer reef often water quality can be clearer and predominately hard corals will be viewed, this is not always possible at inner reef islands.

The other outer reef option is to board a vessel and head out to a floating pontoon. These pontoons are often placed in a location where they can offer a great reef system as well as an area that isn't effected by currents, wind and tides as much as other location. Pontoons can also provide spacious decks to relax and sunbath on as well as an underwater observatory, semi-submarine and glass bottom boat tours.

What ever your preference is Doittour.com can provide the best deals on all Cairns, reef tour options.
