Where is your favourite Aussie beach?

Australia has a lot to offer... the rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, the outback and of course the magnificent beaches!

With beach activities varying for each individual, there are many popular beaches that you may consider your favourite. You may frequent the beach to surf, sunbake, build a sandcastle, surf ski, take a walk or just cool down with an ocean swim.

We would love to hear where your favourite beach is and what you like to do there.

The beautiful Barossa!

It is said by many that the Barossa Valley is the most famous wine region in Australia. South Australia's winery regions expand to the Adelaide Hills, Clare Valley, McLaren Valen and some other smaller regions also. Well known for it's fabulous hospitality, the Barossa Valley wine region has produced consistently outstanding vintages over the past 150 years.

Locals and visitors take advantage of the winery tour options to ensure that they can spend a full day tasting wines from a range of wineries as well as indulge in the culinary delights without needing to drive home at the end of the day.

Tours depart daily, picking up from hotels in Adelaide and Glenelg with prices starting from $76.

Cruising the Brisbane River

On a recent trip to Brisbane with my family I realised how effectively the River Cat ferries could be used to get from one place to another, when the trip involved crossing the river. My children eagerly awaited each crossing and enjoyed spotting the animals, people and other vessels as we crossed the river. Landing on Eagle Street Pier on our last day in Brisbane we came across the fabulous Kookaburra River Queens, a pair of paddle-wheelers powered by two 350 horsepower engines.  These majestic vessels offer lunch and dinner cruises down the Brisbane River, an ideal way to both take in the sights of Brisbane as well as enjoy a great buffet meal. Some journeys include live onboard entertainment as well as seafood buffet options. Prices from $35 for a midweek lunch cruise*.

Cruise the Whitsundays!

Airlie Beach, the launching pad for the Whitsunday Islands is an awesome little beachside community that welcomes visitors. Complete with cafes, restaurants and pubs, the main street is a place that you will find yourself wandering for some time.

The Airlie Beach lagoon is a spectacular swimming lagoon open to the public near the waters edge in the main street and is a place you will commonly find families, backpackers and locals cooling off on a hot day.

Really when it comes down to it though, Airlile Beach is where you relax when you are not out sailing, cruising, snorkelling or diving around the Whitsunday Islands and along the Great Barrier Reef. Most people spend their days out on the reef with either an overnight or combination of day tours.

There are a couple of distinct tour options, you can either visit to the 'outer' Great Barrier Reef or cruise and sail amongst the Whitsunday Islands themselves. Serious scuba divers and keen snorkellers head to the outer reef, it is a full day tour with quite a trip out to the reef. Generally outer reef tours include a range of activites such as snorkelling, semi-sub tour, glass bottom boat tour, underwater observatory, water slides, pontoon deck and buffet lunch. There are several inner reef island options to choose from including those that sail or cruise to one or more of the islands and often include lunch as well as either use of resort facilities, snorkelling around island reefs or swimming at popluar beaches such as Whitehaven. Popular islands to visit on a day trip include Daydream Island, Long Island, South Molle Island and Hook Island. Many people also choose to see the reef from the air on one of the well-known 'bubble' helicoptors which offer scenic tours, romantic secluded drop-offs as well as cruise/fly options.
