What to do in Airlie Beach?

Tour Airlie Beach Lagoon - Do It Tour
Leaving the main highway between Bowen and Mackay and heading into the isolated township of Airlie Beach is a highlight when travelling north towards Cairns. You can tour Airlie Beach itself in just a short time but the people are not here for the mainland, it is the jewel that becomes visible once you leave the shore that attracts the visitors.

The majestic 74 Whitsunday Islands lay right amongst the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef. Home to a large population of underwater animal and coral species it is a draw card for snorkellers and scuba divers from around the world.

From the moment you arrive in Airlie Beach you will get the vibe that you are in a special place. When visitors are on the mainland they really only gather in a couple of places so it is quite easy to get amongst the action. The Airlie Beach Lagoon is situated right in the centre of town along the water front and provides a stinger free environment for swimmers or just a cool grassy knoll to meet up with friends. Alternatively the many backpackers clubs and bars along the main street are where people gather to plan trips, celebrate a successful day on the reef or make new friends.

Sailing Whitsundays  Do It Tour
Whitsunday tours to the local islands or outer Great Barrier Reef are the only way to get out and see the reef up close as well as the magnificent paradise that is beyond the mainland. For the 18 -35's I recommend a full day sailing trip with open bar and snorkelling such as the Camira or an Ocean Rafting tour which will allow you to get to the more untouched areas. The scuba diving enthusiasts should consider Whitsunday tours to the outer reef on a Great Barrier Reef Adventures Day trip complete with pontoon, underwater observatory, semi-submarine, glass bottom boat and waterslide into the ocean. Whilst in Airlie Beach you may even like to book a heli flight or jet ski tour to get the adrenalin pumping.

There are many options for a quieter day out or family trip that includes a combination of 1 or 2 island transfers and lunch as well as some optional snorkelling and use of resort facilities. Popular stops include: Daydream Island, Long Island and Whitehaven Beach.
